At Molodist, we always strive to represent the world of cinema in all its complexity and diversity. When putting together the national film programme, we follow the same approach and try to find a balance between universal and local themes in order to appeal to both German and Ukrainian audiences. However, it would be unnecessary and also wrong to ignore the predominant interest of Ukrainian filmmakers in recent years: The view into the not so long history of Ukraine as an independent state – and the attempt of Ukrainians to rediscover or (re)construct their identity after hundreds of years of Soviet and Russian oppression.
Most of the films in the programme deal with the 1990s. Either the plot is set in that time or the present is derived from the past. Rarely do these stories contain overtly political or in any way definitive statements – after all, the process of our rediscovery and (re)construction is still ongoing. For now, we offer only a glimpse of our progress to date.

На „Молодості“ ми завжди прагнемо представляти світ кіно в усій його складності та різноманітності. Формуючи національну кінопрограму, ми дотримуємося такого ж підходу і намагаємося знайти баланс між універсальними та локальними темами, щоб зацікавити як німецьку, так і українську аудиторію. Однак було б непотрібно і неправильно ігнорувати переважний інтерес до українських кінематографістів, який спостерігається останніми роками: Погляд на не таку вже й довгу історію України як незалежної держави – і спроби українців заново відкрити або (пере)сконструювати свою ідентич-ність після сотень років радянського та російського гноблення.
Більшість фільмів програми стосуються 1990-х років. Сюжет або розгортається в той час, або сучасність випливає з минулого. Рідко коли ці історії містять відверто політичні чи в будь-який спосіб остаточні твердження – адже процес нашого перевідкриття та (ре) конструювання все ще триває. Наразі ми пропонуємо лише короткий огляд того, що ми вже зробили.
