Synopse

More than a dozen of Patricia Highsmith’s novels have been filmed, some several times, and thrilled millions of viewers. In this psychological thriller full of twists, we experience for the first time the crime writer herself. In 1995, the renowned thriller writer Patricia Highsmith (Helen Mirren) has withdrawn to her chalet in the Swiss Alps. Tired of the outside world and her readers, she surrounds herself with books, cats and her beloved collection of antique weapons. This self-imposed exile comes to an abrupt end when the young editor Edward Ridgeway (Alden Ehrenreich) suddenly turns up on her doorstep. Her New York publisher has given him the job of getting the eccentric American to write one last novel starring her best-known character: the conman and murderer Tom Ripley. Highsmith refuses – unless Edward helps her concoct the perfect murder. For that, they need an inconspicuous, average guy like him and the right tools – a sharp knife or a pinch of arsenic? Edward’s visit soon becomes a cat-and-mouse game in which both are forced to wonder who at that moment is actually pulling the strings. A fascinating excursion into a world where story and myth are artfully interwoven: a Ripley film without a Ripley and a Highsmith like no other.

Anton Corbijn is known for his photography, music videos, films, graphic design and commercials. Above all, his portraits of rock and pop stars like Depeche Mode, Nick Cave or U2 made him internationally famous. In 2007 he made his first feature Control (FFHH 2007). A Talent for Murder is his fifth film.
