Screenplay writers and directors are the creative engines of fictional production. In the beginning there is always a bold vision, but on the way to the finished film the vision is often lost.The reasons for this often lie in the very development of the material and in the fact that the artistic encounter between screenplay and direction in an institutionalised industry is caught between the poles of power and competence.
Introduced by a keynote speech, the panel with representatives from screenwriting, directing, producing and editing will look for concrete criteria for constructive cooperation and ask the question: How can we achieve more quality for cinema and television?
An event of the German Screenwriters’ Association (VDD) in cooperation with the Screenplay Section of the German Film Academy and FILMFEST HAMBURG.

The discussion will be based on theses from the brochure In einem Boot. An Essay on Screenplay Development by Heide Schwochow, Petra Lüschow and Mona Kino, which will be published in September 2021, edited by the Screenplay Section of the German Film Academy, with the support of the VDD.
