The format »Contemporary Cinema in Focus« is entering its third round – this year two striking voices of independent cinema will give an insight into their filmmaking: British director Andrea Arnold has made her first documentary, Cow, and US-American director Sean Baker is showing his new film Red Rocket at FILMFEST HAMBURG. In addition, a selection of older films by the two will once again be shown on the big screen.
The film talk with Andrea Arnold took place on 1 October directly after the screening of Cow at CinemaxX 3.

Bar TALKS 2019
In 2019, FILMFEST HAMBURG highlighted the work of two of the most exciting voices in world cinema at the moment in the newly introduced format »Contemporary Cinema in Focus«. On the occasion of the German premieres of Lav Diaz’s dystopian science fiction The Halt and Céline Sciamma’s Cannes award-winning Portrait of a Lady on Fire, FILMFEST HAMBURG invited both filmmakers to present their films and working methods in in-depth conversations. Work shows with earlier films completed the programme. Hamburg’s community broadcaster and educational channel TIDE recorded the talks.
