Nordstrand

Story

Marten and his brother Volker meet again for the first time in years at their parents’ old house on the North Sea coast. Their mother is due to be released from prison shortly, where she has been since the death of their father. Marten wants to persuade his brother that they should pick her up together. But Volker will not hear of it, he only seems to have come in order to sell the house. He accuses his mother of not protecting him against his father’s violent attacks when he was a boy. Marten, too, didn’t stick up for his brother at the time. Gradually, this family drama reveals the full extent of Volker’s psychological scarring. Director

Florian Eichinger (*1971) worked as a journalist in TV. HIs first short Der letzte Geselle [The Last Apprentice] won the 2003 Murnau Short Film Prize. After Without You I'm Nothing (2008) and Nordstrand (2013, FILMFEST HAMBURG) Die Hände meiner Mutter is the third part of a trilogy dealing with violence in the family.
