Synopse

The debut film of Palestinian director Rakan Mayasi is a lyrical tale of two Bedouin sisters, shot without a screenplay using amateur actors, haunting and atmospheric. In the silent fog of the Bekaa Plain, on the border between Lebanon and Syria, a truck catches fire and causes unrest in an otherwise tightly-knit Bedouin community. Gamra has disappeared – perhaps she’s hiding, perhaps she’s on the run? Her cousin Yasser starts looking for her and stirs up old feuds. To calm things down again, Yasser’s sisters Jawaher and Rim are chosen. One stays calm, while the other protests. But both know how quickly girls can become the price of peace.

Regie

Rakan Mayasi is a Palestinian film-maker who was born in Germany and grew up in Jordan. He studied Film in Lebanon and trained under Abbas Kiarostami at the Asian Film Academy in South Korea. Yesterday the Eye Didn't Sleep had its premiere in the section Un Certain Regard in Cannes.
