Synopse

A whodunnit disguised as a samurai film: In his first period film, Kiyoshi Kurosawa has made a tense, ensemble piece that goes against the grain of conventional historical films. Besieged by the tyrannical warlord Nobunaga Oda, against whom he has revolted, Lord Murashige Araki is confronted with a series of mysterious crimes within his own four walls. Racked with suspicion, Murashige is forced to join up with the brilliant, but dangerous strategist Kanbei Kuroda, whom he is holding prisoner, in order to discover the truth and unmask the traitors in his own ranks.

Regie

Kiyoshi Kurosawa is one of the most significant contemporary directors in Japanese cinema. His work lies between arthouse and genre cinema. His most recent film Cloud was shown in 2024 at FilmFest Hamburg.
