Synopse
A biting satirical portrait by Małgorzata Szumowska of Polish society between bigotry, unbridled consumption and sensationalist media. Jacek loves heavy metal and enjoys his existence as a cool outsider in his otherwise bourgeois circle. Near his home town on the Polish-German border, there are plans to build the biggest statue of Jesus in the world. Jacek works on the building site. But a serious accident at work leaves him disfigured. In the face of massive media interest, he undergoes the first face transplant ever in Poland. Jacek is celebrated as a national hero and a martyr, the Jesus statue gets bigger and bigger – but he can’t recognize the face he sees in the mirror.
Regie
Małgorzata Szumowska is one of Poland’s most prolific film-makers. Her works as author and director include Elles (2011) and In the Name Of (2013). Body (2015) won the Silver Bear for Best Direction at the Berlinale, Mug (2018) won the jury prize.
