Synopsis
A chance meeting between two people from completely different backgrounds in Haiti becomes a spiritual search between beauty and pain. In Jacmel, Haiti, everyday life is dictated by the sea, the church and the spirits. Marie Madeleine is a confident woman who earns a living as a sex worker. One day, she meets Joseph, a young evangelist, whose life is ruled by his faith and his mission. An unusual relationship is born. While Joseph’s beliefs come under pressure, Marie Madeleine takes him into a world where everything can be reinvented.
Bio
Gessica Généus is a Haitian actor, singer and director. After winning a scholarship to Acting International in Paris, she founded her own production company in Haiti. After Freda (2021), Marie Madeleine is her second feature film and was shown in the section Un Certain Regard at Cannes.
