Synopse

Petra Volpe’s first English-language film is an unusual, sensitive prison drama about guilt, hope and dignity. Frank, a man in his 40s, is serving a life sentence. When he is transferred to a new facility, he decides to join the Gold Coats, a programme in which prisoners look after fellow inmates with Alzheimer’s and dementia. He hopes that this will increase his chances of parole. The work is demanding, but Frank develops an unexpected relationship with his patient Louis, a man who was once feared for his authority and power. Caring for him brings Frank to his physical and emotional limits.

Regie

Petra Volpe is Swiss and studied Dramaturgy and Screenplay at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. In 2017, she had her international breakthrough with The Divine Order, The nursing drama Late Shift (2025) was included in the Oscar shortlist and sold to over 50 countries. Volpe lives and works in Berlin und New York.
