Synopse

Out of the trenches, on to the stage: an impressive study of the ambivalence of war. Both lead actors shared the Best Actor award at Cannes. 1916. The young Belgian soldier Pierre arrives at the front. He is highly motivated and determined to prove himself on the battlefield. In the trenches he meets flamboyant Francis, who has received the order to improve the troops’ morale. In the face of the constant barrage of violence, the pair decide to put on a revue with their comrades. An attempt to escape the brutality, even if only for a moment.

Regie

Lukas Dhont is one of the most important new voices in European Queer Cinema. The Belgian director won several international awards with his debut Girl and his second film Close (FFHH 2022).
