FILMFEST HAMBURG publishes Key Visual
23. August 2022
This year’s FILMFEST HAMBURG key visual was conceived by the full-service design studio Hansen/2 and artistically realised by the Australian illustrator Izzy Lawrence. The motif makes dreams come true and can be seen now and in the coming weeks on advertising spaces in the city, online on the festival’s social media channels and website.
Izzy Lawrence is known for her playful works inspired by nature and romantic nostalgia. For the FILMFEST HAMBURG key visual, the team of Hansen/2 and the artist combined the yellow frieze with dreamy elements like sunlight, flickering and swinging in Lawrence’s typical delicate hues, inviting you to lose yourself in new worlds. This is also the transition to the FILMFEST HAMBURG programme: stories as colourful as life, sometimes calm, sometimes energetic, but always with their finger on the pulse. “I worked closely with the Hansen/2 team to create a picture that seems otherworldly, dreamy, playful and bright. A scene that feels a little surreal and stirs the imagination,” the artist reveals about her design.
These artistic elements were also taken up in this year’s trailer, which can be seen in cinemas from Thursday. It was produced and realised by KAEPTN together with PRG Cinegate and a team of filmmakers from Hamburg, including David Aufdembrinke and Lasse Buchhop. In addition to the central motif of the swings, various locations as well as components of the cinema production were taken up. They merge with a dance performance to create a homage to the film and cinema industry that ends where FILMFEST HAMBURG begins: in the cinema halls. “The choreography builds a bridge between the fantastic and the down-to-earth. It lives from a familiar playfulness that is not always perfect, but close to the audience,” says director Lasse Buchhop. “Our images are meant to capture the feeling of being mesmerised by a cinema film,” adds film writer David Aufdembrinke.
For the production, the creative team, together with PRG Cinegate, relies on innovative LED technology. The same technology was used for The Social Experiment, which premieres at FILMFEST HAMBURG. It allows the performance to flow in different settings without editing, which enhances the dreamy-cinematic aspect. “In this virtual production technology, we see a cornerstone of the future of film productions to create visual worlds and effects that were previously unattainable. We have set ourselves the goal of establishing Hamburg as a top location for this technology,” says Oliver Anlauf, Managing Director of KAEPTN.
The film was shot at PM Blue, the soundtrack was composed by Hamburg musicians Isabelle Saadat and Jakob Kleij from 106Hz Studios, and the cinema mix was done by Studio Funk.
FILMFEST HAMBURG will take place from 29 September to 8 October 2022. Around 100 productions from all over the world will be shown as European, German or Hamburg premieres. Festival cinemas are the Abaton, Alabama, CinemaxX Dammtor, Metropolis, Passage and the Studio-Kino.
The complete programme will be announced on 13 September, advance booking starts on 15 September.
