CLOSE BY LUKAS DHONT RECEIVES THE LUX AUDIENCE AWARD
Five European films in total were up for selection. The audience and members of the European Parliament could vote on the winner by June 12. The award ceremony took place on June 27 in Brussels.
Close is the debut film of Belgian director Lukas Dhont. His sensitive drama about closeness, distance and alienation won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes.
The two 13-year-old boys Léo and Rémi are best friends. They spend every free minute together, playing cops and robbers, and at night they like to sleep side by side in Rémi’s bed. On the threshold of adulthood, their relationship begins to change, and the comments of those around them about their intimate friendship also cause them to gradually become estranged from each other, with Léo in particular distancing himself.
