DOCUMENTARY As a reaction to illegal logging, resistance grows in the Brazilian rain forest: the Guajajara are not going to sit idly by and watch their home be destroyed. There is a bounty on Olimpio’s head. The man is a thorn in the side of the logging mafia because he organizes regular patrols of the remaining forest in the state of Maranhão. With no government support, he and other activists comb the region looking for criminal gangs. For Olimpio and the Guarajara, there is more at stake than environmental protection – the forest lies at the heart of their culture and identity, and they are prepared to risk their lives to preserve it.
