Story

A German-Iranian family from the GDR longs for its home and its freedom and gets caught up in the Islamic Revolution of 1979. A gripping historical drama based on actual events. Iran, February 1979. After the fall of the Shah, the Islamic Revolution sweeps the land. Full of love and hope, the young chemist Beate (Katrin Röver) follows her husband Omid (Reza Brojerdi), an Iranian dissident living in the GDR, to his home country. But after the initial euphoria the situation for Beate and her 8-year old daughter quickly deteriorates. While the new, revolutionary government turns into an ever more ruthless regime, Beate’s family have to make a fateful decision.

Director

HOSSEIN POURSEIFI (*1976) came to Germany from Iran with his family at the age of nine. He became known as a director and screenwriter for his award-winning short film Punched & Punished/Falsche Freunde. Tomorrow We Are Free is his first feature length film.
