Story

A debut that is a focussed study of ghostly encounters and loneliness in modern South Korea. Jina works in the call centre of a credit card company and does her work with aloof professionalism. In her private life too, she avoids contact with her fellow humans. Including her father, from whom she is estranged and whom she observes via a secretly installed video camera. Then she learns that a meeting with her neighbour may not have been as real as she thought. With this strange experience, Jina begins to question her chosen isolation. Shot before the Corona pandemic, Aloners is a fitting portrait of our world in alienation mode.

Director

HONG SUNG-EUN (*1988) studied at the Korean Academy of Film Arts. Actor Gong Seung-yeon as Jina won Best Actress at the Jeonju Festival.
