Story
Uruguay 2002: the country is rocked by strikes and student protests. Ariel is one of the leading left-wing activists at the university of Montevideo. When his father dies, the 25-year old returns to his home town of Salto and learns that his inheritance consists of a heavily indebted ranch, an old dog and a house in the town that he has to share with his father’s lover. But the students are protesting in the provinces too and Ariel is torn between the roles of revolutionary and bourgeois executor. The Militant is a late coming-of-age story, poetically and thoughtfully told.
