Story
Since the beginning of the 19th century, there has existed a large and lively Chinese diaspora in India. Taiwanese director Chung Shefong travels to the heart of Calcutta’s Chinatown and illuminates the origins and realities of Chinese life there. On the one hand, she documents the great historical breaks in Sino-Indian relations, on the other the cultural interweaving, both historical and pop-cultural. A filmic-ethnographic kaleidoscope from the great waves of immigration through the Sino-Indian war of 1962 up to the first Bollywood star of Chinese origin. This film is part of the special series “Chinese Independent Cinema”.
