Synopse

On a donkey cart through Egypt. A warm-hearted road movie about an old man and a boy and an enchanting homage to life. Beshay has never left the leper colony in the Egyptian desert where he has lived since childhood. When his wife dies, the long cured, but severely disfigured man hitches up his donkey and sets out to find the roots of his family. Beshay is accompanied by Obama, an orphaned boy, whom he has taken under his wing. The pair traverse the country and together face down the perturbed stares – in the search for Beshay's homeland and a modicum of humanity.

Regie

A.B. SHAWKY hat ägyptische und österreichische Wurzeln und studierte Regie an der Filmhochschule in Kairo. Yomeddine ist sein Filmdebüt und lief als erste ägyptische Produktion im offiziellen Wettbewerb von Cannes.
