Synopse

Kobyashi’s seventh film at FILMFEST HAMBURG, "Where Are You?", tells the story of 16-year old pupil Ryo, who must cover the hospital costs for his mother. When she dies, his financial situation is worsened still, as a worthy funeral proves much too expensive. Ryo grows increasingly lonely and takes refuge in an old wooden boat, which he lovingly paints and which becomes his dream world. But real life holds a merciless grip on the boy, with no way out and nowhere to venture. A discomforting portrait of loneliness.

Masahiro Kobayashi (*1954)worked as folksinger and scriptwriter beforehe made his first film as director and producerin 1996. His films are regulars at FilmfestHamburg.
