Synopse
Romanies Žaneta and David dream of living a normal life in the Czech Republic, but the prejudice and hostility of their environment and the authorities make it impossible. When they look for normal jobs, they experience only rejection. The couple can scarcely manage to get the minimum together that they and their young daughter need to survive. While David hopes that a robbery will solve their problems at a stroke, Žaneta wants to avoid embodying the Romany cliché and takes a job working in a factory. With its unusual amateur actors, this intense drama achieves an almost documentary effect.
Regie
Petr Václav (*1967) made documentaries before turning to fictional films. Marian, his debut feature about a neglected Romany boy, won the Silver Leopard at Locarno in 1996.
