Synopse
In her adaption of the eponymous novel by Milán Füst, Ildikó Enyedi tells a fateful love story in the 1920s. In a Hamburg café, the hard-nosed Dutch sea captain Jakob Störr makes a bet with a friend that he will marry the first woman who walks in. The wager, made in the exuberance of intoxication, becomes a turning point in Störr’s life when Lizzy (Léa Seydoux) enters the café. The pair marry and move to Paris, but whenever Störr has to go to sea for months at a time, he is consumed with jealousy. And so he desperately tries to bind Lizzy to him.
