Synopse
DOCUMENTARY A picture-postcard paradise in the eye of the tourist storm: how much longing can a village bear before it breaks? Every summer, the five villages of the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast brace themselves for millions of tourists. One season long, Gar O'Rourke accompanies six people whose lives criss-cross between the vineyards, crammed streets and endless selfie queues – fishermen, hotel owners, seasonal workers and an American influencer. With patience and affectionate humour, a portrait is painted of a place whose spell lures people from all over the world.
Regie
Gar O'Rourke is an Irish documentary film-maker from Galway. His debut film Sanatorium was Ireland’s Oscar entry and had its German premiere in 2025 at the FilmFest Hamburg. The Siege of Paradise is his second full-length film.
