Synopse
In his first English language film, Pedro Almodóvar tells of two fascinatingly complex women, superbly played by Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. They are the beating heart of a colourful drama full of emotion celebrating friendship and life. In their youth, Ingrid and Martha were colleagues on a magazine and good friends. Then they lost sight of each other. Ingrid meanwhile has become a successful author who is so fearful of death that she’s written a book about it. Martha is a war reporter. When Ingrid learns that Martha is ill, she visits her and they celebrate the old days and their friendship. They tell each other stories, reveal secrets and discuss mortality and relief. One day, Martha asks her friend a favour – but Ingrid hesitates.
»Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore carry the whole film on their shoulders. They are a spectacle. My crew and I were sometimes moved to tears as we watched them act. It was a very moving shoot and in some ways a blessing.« (Pedro Almodóvar)
