Synopse

DOCUMENTARY FILM Paris, 1954: Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld take to the big stage at the same time, thereby laying the foundations for one of the most famous rivalries in fashion history. A glamorous drama about ambition, desire and two men who left a lasting mark on the fashion world. At the International Wool Secretariat competition, 18-year-old Yves Saint Laurent and 21-year-old Karl Lagerfeld are honoured. Whilst Saint Laurent takes over Dior shortly afterwards and founds his own label, Lagerfeld becomes a master of constant reinvention. The former friends become bitter rivals, not least because of Jacques de Bascher, Lagerfeld’s flamboyant partner, who also comes dangerously close to Saint Laurent.

Olivier Nicklaus is a documentary film director and writer specialising in fashion. His work includes the ARTE series Fashion! as well as documentaries about Azzedine Alaïa, Versace and Gucci. He also writes screenplays for films and TV series – most recently as co-creator and co-writer of the Amazon series Glamsquad (2026) – and contributes to magazines and podcasts.
