Synopse
An opulent costume drama about the legend of Zaphira, the last queen of Algeria. Algiers, 1516. The small Arab Berber republic has for years been under the control of the Spanish. To liberate the city from the tyranny of its occupiers, King Salim Toumi joins forces with the pirate Barbarossa. Together, they drive the Spaniards out – but the victory celebrations are cut short when Barbarossa murders the king and seizes power. One woman is prepared to stand up to him: Queen Zaphira.

DAMIEN OUNOURI (*1982 in Clermont-Ferrand) studied film theory at the Sorbonne in Paris and lives in Algiers. His film Kindil el Bahr was shown in 2016 at FILMFEST HAMBURG. ADILA BENDIMERAD is an Algerian actor, screenplay writer and producer. In 2011, she founded the production company Taj Intaj to encourage young Algerian talent.
