Synopse
While in the capital a political crisis is brewing, Laila and her brother and a friend set out on a journey to the South of the country where her aunt is supposed to be living. The further they get from events in Bangkok, the more they move into the terrain of the age-old conflict between the Buddhist majority and the Muslim minority. Long-forgotten memories return, while their aunt seems to have completely disappeared. Island Funeral is an elegant road movie, as many-layered as its story. A political and aesthetic reflection unafraid to quote other genres and dip into magical realism.
