Synopse

In the middle of the Apuanian Alps in Tuscany lives the herdsman Pacifico Pieruccioni. He has everything he needs to live. Early one morning, the shrill cries of a political debate disturb him as he's milking in this peaceful idyll, where 70 years previously a terrible crime was committed. As they retreated, German soldiers killed hundreds of civilians and partisans. Pacifico was born in the region and has never lived anywhere else, but it now seems that his time is up. The film blurs the borders between fiction, documentary and anthropological study and in the style of the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges portrays an aleph: a figure that encompasses past, present and future, that seems at the same time both mythologically distant and yet concretely near.

SIMONE RAPISARDA CASANOVA was born in Sicily and studied film production at York University in Toronto. After El árbol de las fresas (2011), The Creation Of Meaning is his second full-length film. He won the prize for best new director at the festival in Locarno.
