Synopse
Tamayo will no longer fulfill the expectations of his parents: he finally wants to be himself. The first step towards freedom is to apply to have his name removed from the baptismal records of the Catholic church. But even this simple request turns into a bizarre odyssey through the bureaucracy of the clerical system. On the way, his stormy past, with all its desires and transgressions, catches up with him and plunges him ever deeper into confusion. The Apostate is a Kafkaesque coming-of-age comedy from Madrid.

FEDERICO VEIROJ (*1976) is a director, screenplay writer and producer. Since his tragi-comic debut Acné that was shown at FILMFEST HAMBURG in 2008, he has established himself as a distinctive voice in Uruguayan cinema. His films A Useful Life (2010) und The Apostate (2015) were also shown at FILMFEST HAMBURG
