Synopse

DOCUMENTARY A sinister journey into the imagination of mass murderers. A cinematic fever-dream about a shocking regime of impunity is a seminal piece of documentary film history. In a country where murderers are feted as heroes, the film crew ask the unrepentant leaders of a death squad, Anwar Congo and his friends, to dramatize their part in the 1965 massacres in Indonesia. But the killers’ idea is not to be witnesses in a documentary, they would rather be stars in their favourite film genres: gangster films, Westerns, musicals. They write the scripts. They play themselves. And they play their victims.

Regie

JOSHUA OPPENHEIMER (*1974 in the USA) studied film at Harvard University and at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. He received the European Film Award in 2013 for his documentary The Act of Killing. The Look of Silence (2014), also a documentary, has also won several awards.
