Synopse

In a remote rural region, a level crossing keeper does his job: barrier up, barrier down, his working day dictated by the railway timetable. It was always thus. His wife sits at home at her loom weaving carpets. Their son, a soldier, comes by. His visit marks a break in their day, albeit a brief one, then life goes on as before. Then a letter arrives from the railway authority in Teheran which changes everything. Almost without words and in very long takes, director Saless paints a poetic still life about being old.
