Synopse

The old Sternbrücke railway bridge in Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel district is now history. The film portrays life by and under the bridge – as it once was and how it came to an end. A declaration of love to an edifice and its people, and a tirade against urban politics. Mehmet sells falafel, Martina has a kiosk and Stefan repairs cars. And every weekend, young people fill the clubs under the Sternbrücke – one of more than a hundred old railway bridges in Hamburg. But its time is up: the plan is to take down the bridge and replace it. What then follows affects the whole area, as the plans reveal questions that are being asked all over the world: who shapes a city? Is there still room for subculture and an affordable life?

Regie

Christian Hornung studied Film at the HFBK in Hamburg. His graduation film Gleb's Movie had its premiere in 2010 at the Berlinale. His documentary full-length debut Some Had Crocodiles was shown in 2016 in competition at the Max Ophüls Preis festival.
