Synopse

Leo is a film-maker looking for a wolf for his next project. During his search, he meets Marie, a temperamental shepherdess who seduces him and then has his child. Leo, a flighty beau and absolute urbanite, moves in with Marie and her father on their farm. But their happiness is short-lived. One day, Marie abandons him and Leo has to deal with both looking after their child and warding off the increasing advances of his monstrous father-in-law, while his producer is on his case demanding his money back. A steady stream of new, ever more absurd twists rock Leo's life – and the story, in which nothing is as it appears to be. Staying Vertical is a very entertaining, inspiring rejection of the diktats of common sense and the logic of narration as we know it.

Regie

Alain Guiraudie (*1964) comes from a rural background and is today one of France's mostunconventional film-makers. His previous film Stranger by the Lake won the 2013 prize for best direction at Cannesin the section Un Certain Regard. Staying Vertical is his eighth feature.
