Synopse

HYBRID With a fascinatingly light touch, Bruno Santamaría Razo’s debut feature deals with the crises of childhood and interweaves home videos, animations and aids information films with the opulence of a melodrama. Mexico City, in the early 1990s. Bruno is celebrating his 11th birthday with a fancy-dress party, in which gender roles are switched, and also spending happy days with his friend Vladimir. Then comes the news that his father is HIV-positive. As in Salsa songs, the family try to sing and dance away the pain. 30 years later, Bruno grapples with the memories and insights that came with this turning-point.
