Synopse
Yorgos Lanthimos’ bizarre feminist variation on the Frankenstein theme, with brilliant performances from Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone.
To escape the abuse of her husband, Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) takes her own life. But her body falls into the hands of the brilliant yet unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), who brings her back from the dead. In the mental state of a child, Bella has to to relearn how to live. Together with the cunning lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo) she sets out on a fast-paced adventure across the continents. On her journey, she frees herself more and more from the diktats and prejudices of the time and begins to stand up for equality and freedom.

YORGOS LANTHIMOS (*1973 in Greece) has been one of European cinema’s most original and creative voices since his film Dogtooth (2009). His films The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Favourite were shown at FILMFEST HAMBURG.
