Synopse

Painter and filmmaker Collar allows his uncle Juan de Dios and his Paraguayan fellow villagers to more or less play themselves in this authentic portrait of rural culture. During nine days of mourning ('novena') for his deceased mother, uncle Juan – a poet and dreamer - reflects on his possible future life as a guest worker in Buenos Aires. Will he dare to start anew?

Regie

Enrique Collar, (*1964) grew up in Paraguay and studied art in Buenos Aires. Before he turned to filmmaking in 1997, he worked exclusively as a painter. Novena is his second fiction feature film.
