Synopse
Nelly has many faces. A celebrated and hotly discussed writer, she polarizes the French literary scene with an autobiographical novel in which she describes her experiences as a sex worker. Then there's the eccentric, glamorous Nelly, but also the Nelly plagued by self-doubt and angst that has almost manically tried to control her image ever since her first best-seller and that yearns for approval. All these aspects also appear in her books and the border between life and work is open. Even her death she pre-empts in a book. Nelly is an unusual biopic about the Quebec writer Nelly Arcan, who died in 2009. The film translates her multiple personas in different characters, played with intensity by Mylène Mackay. A kaleidoscopic portrait of talented, broken, beautiful and restless woman.
