Synopsis
HYBRID Global capitalism as seen from the margins: a film about recycling, myths and car tyres. The open-cast mountain mine of Erzberg in Styria has been in operation since the days of Ancient Rome. 2000 years later, the scrap metal in Cliff‘s repair garage is stacked in towering piles. The Nigerian mechanic has his hands full: he drives around looking for cheap crocks, bargains with East European tyre dealers and strips cars down for the parts, which he then ships to his home country where they’re sought-after spares. In the shadow of the mountain, the borders between First and Third World, entrepreneurial freedom and never-ending work – and fact and fiction – are fluent.
