Synopse
An Írish country house at the end of the 19th century. At the annual summer party, the young aristocrat Julie (Jessica Chastain) encounters the servant Jean (Colin Farrell). Despite the difference in their social status, she is at once drawn to his manners and erudition: he has obviously seen the world. The pair drink and dance together and spend the night flirting and fencing, sometimes tenderly, sometimes bitterly, in a mixture of seduction and rejection, domination and humiliation. They even have visions of a life together - until the final act of their precarious game brings a fateful turn of events. Liv Ullmann adapted the original play by August Strindberg as an intense, tragi-comic chamber piece and found the perfect protagonists in Jessica Chastain and Colin Farrell.
