Synopse

Soane is 19 and built like an American refrigerator. He lives with hisfather and younger brother in New Caledonia, agroup of islands belonging to Francein the South Pacific. When a scout makes him an offer to play in a professionalFrench rugby team, he doesn't hesitate, ignoring the wishes of his violentfather, who promptly declares his son dead and chases him off his land. But thepromise of a new future doesn't last long: Soane's fighting weight is 20kg lessthan what it should be. Abandoned and alone, he roams the demi-monde ofnightclubs and second-class rugby clubs in the French provinces and slowly makeshis way, step by step. Mercenary isan unusual coming-of-age drama made almost exclusively with amateur actors.

Regie

Sacha Wolff (*1981) studied at the Fémis film school in Paris. After a series of award-winning short and documentary films, Mercenary is his debut feature.
