Synopse
»Blessed be the fruit of thy womb«: a meeting between a nun and two teenage mothers has a long-term effect on their lives. Young Sister Paola travels from Italy to Buenos Aires to complete her novitiate and take her final vows. She starts working in a hogar, a religious centre for young mothers, where she meets the 17-year olds Lu and Fati. The two precocious teenagers are at odds with the strict rules of the nuns who have taken them in. Paola in turn is confronted with a world that throws her off balance. She develops strong maternal feelings for one of the babies and starts thinking about new directions for her own life.
Regie
MAURA DELPERO (*1975) studied literature in Bologna and Paris and dramaturgy in Buenos Aires. After a few internationally prized documentaries, Maternal is her debut feature film.
