Synopse
DOCUMENTARY In Kolwezi, a town in Southern Congo, a young man works as a charcoal burner, making charcoal to sell in the town. The roads he has to travel are difficult and dangerous, but his strength and his dream of a better life help to overcome the hardships. Documentarist Emmanuel Gras accompanied this tough life with his camera, and his impressive portrait makes capitalism's exploitative cycle painfully visible. Makala won the main prize in the section Semaine de la Critique at Cannes.
Regie
After his studies in Paris, EMMANUEL GRAS (*1976) worked as a cameraperson on documentary films before he began to realize his own projects.
