Synopse

Because of a stupid mishap the boy Ah Kun loses his little sister’s only pair of shoes. The desperation is enormous: How is Seow Fang supposed to go to school without them? There is no replacement for them in sight and their poor parents must not learn about this misfortune. Despite all these unfavourable circumstances and several slips the siblings time and again regain the will and energy to support and encourage each other in this difficult situation. This tragicomical story about siblings who have to share a pair of worn shoes takes place in 1965 against the background of Singapore’s declaration of independence from Malaysia. HOMERUN is based on the award-winning Iranian children’s film ‘Children of Heaven’ by Majid Majidi in 1997. The 10-year-old Megan Zheng achieved 2003 the Award for Best New Performer at the Taipei Film Festival.
