Synopse

The war will come. But at the moment everyone is sitting at home in Baghdad celebrating the Festival of Sacrifice. It‘s February 2002. Abbas Fahdel begins by filming his family‘s everyday life: a well is dug, the children throw fruit into the street. The Iraqi director shoots until July 2003. Then again, three weeks after the fall of Saddam Hussein. The atmosphere has changed: now the throb of helicopters fills the air and the nights are full of gunfire. The war has arrived.

Regie

ABBAS FAHDEL verließ im Alter von 18 Jahren den Irak und zog nach Paris, wo er an der Sorbonne in Filmwissenschaften promovierte. Nach Jahren als Filmkritiker kehrte er 2002 in seine Heimat zurück und drehte Dokumentarfilme und 2008 seinen ersten Spielfilm Dawn of the World. Homeland (Iraq Year Zero) wurde 2015 beim Filmfestival Visions du Réel als bester Film ausgezeichnet.
