Synopse
Based on real events: In the Kosovan »village of the widows« – so-called since a massacre in 1999 – a brave woman fights against traditional, patriarchal structures. Fahrije’s husband has been missing ever since the Kosovo war. To keep her family going, she takes her fate in her hands, passes her driving test and starts up a small agrarian cooperative. But the conservative village disapproves of her ambition and efforts to empower herself and other women. Fahrije has to fight on two fronts: for her survival and against a hostile community which is not afraid to stab her in the back.
Regie
BLERTA BASHOLLI (*1983 in what is today Kosovo) studied philosophy and film at Pristina University and trained at the Tisch School of Art in New York. Hive is her debut feature.
