Synopse
April 2009, the old man Tadao and his granddaughter Haru (Spring) go on a trip. Tadao, who lives in a lonely fishing village Mashike in Hokkaido, is a man who has spent his life catching pacific herring. He has retired after injuring his leg, and lives alone with his granddaughter Haru after his only daughter killed herself. Haru has been working as a lunch-lady at an elementary school while taking care of her grandfather, but the school is closed down. Haru loses her job. One day, Haru informs Tadao that she hopes to move to the city to find new job and he has to come with her.
