Synopse
It is not easy for midwife Gulabi (Umashree): a Muslim among Hindus in a fishing village in South India. After her husband leaves her, she has but few friends left. She keeps her spirits up with the help of the cinema, which she is almost addicted to. Her life– and that of her neighbours – changes completely when she is given a TV set. An adaptation of a short story by feminist author Vaidehi, this comedy touches on topics rarely treated in Indian cinema: consumption critique, economic reform, social discrimination.
