Synopse

A little snowed-in town in the Bulgarian provinces, surrounded by mountains and full of delapidated old functional buildings. A godless place. Gana looks after old people, mainly those with dementia. She performs her work mechanically and steals the patients' passports to sell on the black market. When one old lady complains and threatens to call the police, she is silenced by Gana's boyfriend. Nothing in this world seems to have any consequences, corruption and indifference have become so deeply engrained in public life. But things change when Gana hears a new patient sing. It touches something inside her that has long been overgrown: empathy. Godless plunges unsparingly into the depths of a society in which it is almost impossible to remain human. The film won the Golden Leopard at this year's Locarno festival.

Regie

Ralitza Petrova lives and works in Bulgaria and France. She studied art and laterfilm direction at the National Film and Television School in London. Godless is her debut feature.
