Synopse
DOCUMENTARY Wagner is more than music. He is a myth, a question of faith, a political issue. The film travels the world of Wagner afficionados and allows exclusive insights into the holiest of holies: the Bayreuth Festival Theatre. How did Bayreuth manage to remain »the Germans’ living room« under King Ludwig, the Nazi dictatorship and in the post-war democracy – despite the hardness of the seats? Director Axel Brüggemann pursues the phenomenon Richard Wagner. At the side of the great-granddaughter Katharina Wagner, he delves into the creation of a current production and joins conductor Christian Thielemann in the mystic Bayreuth orchestra pit. A tongue-in-cheek trip through a »Gesamtkunstwerk« that knows only either allies or enemies.
