Synopse
Where is the border between social tolerance and state interference? Cristian Mungiu’s new drama asks basic moral questions and won the Golden Palm at Cannes in 2026. Mihai and Lisbet and their five children move from Rumania to a remote village in Norway. Despite the cultural differences and a strict religious upbringing, the children settle in quicker than expected and form close friendships with their neighbours. But the family’s tentative restart begins to falter when the eldest daughter comes to school one day with bruises. The suspicion that the parents use violence on their children leads to the authorities getting involved, jeopardising the family harmony.
